“The RoadRunner”

My nickname has always been “The Roadrunner”.  As a child
I could be seen traipsing down our country one-lane road, barefoot every day. I hated staying home. Usually I walked over to play at a friend’s house. Often, we friends would then go to “The Little Store”. It was, alas, the only store. And, yes, it was quite small. There were, however, plenty of enticing penny candies for sale in the front case.

Since we kids only had a few pennies, if that, the store owner would take pity on us and give us extra pieces of the tootsie rolls or taffy. I still remember his kind, twinkling blue eyes looking down at me from behind the counter.

The lure of the road continued to call. Instead of just a mile barefoot down to the Little Store, I was soon traveling to towns and cities in the USA and eventually, overseas. Strange sights and people captivated me. In college, by car to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico in the 1970s. To live in Konstanz, West Germany in 1982 with my future German husband. Israel by myself (before women journeyed alone very much). Then all around Europe.  With our son’s birth the trips stopped for a few years, and included vacations to Hawaii, Italy, Germany and France. After our son was grown and  left home, it began once more, the wanderlust stronger than ever: South Korea, all through Mexico, Canada, more European cities, Morocco, Turkey and more.  I was a  teacher and an art appraiser. I loved vintage clothing long before it was popular and bought and sold thousands of items both at flea markets and on Ebay. My family is my greatest love and they are always kept close in my heart.

This blog keeps me company on my adventures, in sharing and meeting others along the path. I also write poetry to express my feelings and thoughts along the way or about the past. My photography and some stories are added to bring a sweet trail mix…

That’s me. The roadrunner.  Still on the road. Beep-Beep.
